Practice and hard work has been given by all – even if this was not necessarily reflected in the results for the season. As the year went on, we played a lot better as a team and started to develop and progress as a team and as individuals. The numbers turning out at training increased every week. We played Bablake in the Coventry Cup Final where again the score didn’t reflect the way we played, and we definitely deserved a better result. However, we ended our season on a high, winning our final match against Saint Martins and scoring 2 goals. This result did reflect how we had played over the year, and proved to Mr Lees, and to ourselves, that we had improved and will continue to do so. A special mention should go to our goalkeeper Jade, who made many fantastic saves over the year, after stepping in at the beginning of Year 9, with no idea of how to be a goalkeeper and realising by the end of it that she is clearly a natural! House hockey is always a very competitive event. All the houses were confident and had a range of strong players. Winners this year were White’s, closely followed by Sherwyn’s. Overall, I think that this year’s hockey season has been a success and gives us a great platform for Year 10. This rewarding hockey season wouldn’t have been achievable without the support and help from our hockey coach, Mr Lees. As well as thanking him for always believing in us and helping us work better as a team and year group, on behalf of all Year 9 hockey players, I would like to thank him for all his support and the time and effort he put into our development. By Abbey Forsythe. CoaCh’S Comment This year group certainly had to face up to the challenge of not having the strongest of hockey groups but persevered and it was good to see that numbers increased over the season with several girls making the team through hard work to improve their ability. Special mention must go to the captain, Abbey Forsythe, for her total enthusiasm and ability, on and off the pitch. Jade Greenway, as above, also deserves special mention for her dedication and improvement, often keeping the the score to a very low minimum. Well done, girls. Good luck next year.
