This highlight of the school social calendar marks the end of the Henry’s experience for our departing cohort in a style fitting to their eclectic characters and vibrant personalities. This years occasion fell on a gloriously sunny day in the summer term at the premiere venue of the school playing fields – complete with marquee. The students were greeted by a welcome breakfast upon arrival of bacon butties lovingly prepared by our canteen staff. To burn off these tasty calories the next endeavour was the much anticipated inter-form rounders tournament. There is no greater glory than for your form to reign victorious, with rewards and bragging rights going to the winning tutor group. In a hotly contested battle this year’s event came down to the final few balls in a closely fought contest by the titans of Henry’s; also known as U6SN and U6BE or the tribes of Mr Sweetman and Mr Blake as they are otherwise known. This year the accolade of victor went to Mr Blake’s form who received their chocolatey prizes in wonderful style later in the day. From rounders to further fun based exertion with exciting challenges between many students on the giant inflatable arena where human table football could take place. To add to this vista all of these activities take place whilst all students and staff alike are adorned in fancy dress for the annual competition. The choices by the rounders finalists may have been the reason behind Mr Sweetman’s form being runners up as their Harry Potter theme did lead to too many gowns which clearly hindered the running element. Whilst Mr Blake’s Walking Dead theme provided perhaps more rapid zombies than the usual! Special mention at this juncture must go to Laura Hobbs who constructed a full owl costume from scratch using old pillows to become Hedwig. This feat was clearly a key contributing factor to the award for best fancy dress being presented to Mr Sweetman’s motley crew of Potterness, with he himself being Voldermort of course. The day culminated in speeches and trophies being awarded in the marquee, with a barbeque to formally bring to a close the school career of a wonderful year group. The Good Fellowship Cup, awarded for exceptional contribution to school life, this year went to Josephine Hepburn, a most worthy recipient. On behalf of all staff and the students who have aspired to meet the standard that this cohort have set, we wish you all the very best as you move forward to your diverse destinations and next adventures. year 13 leavers’ day 2015 To 2016 | 43
