Gatsby involved a variety of talents including dancing, singing and acting. There was an intensive audition process which took place last June with pupils being assessed on their improvisation abilities and singing strengths. Once the cast had been chosen the rehearsal process began. Soon the weeks we had left turned into days which turned into hours. From the colourful dresses to the ludicrous hairstyles there was a never a dull moment. The junior production of ‘The Lion King’ brought Africa to life in the drama studio. The art department created animals never to be seen before in England and a beautiful landscape given colour by the tech team. As this production was in the drama studio and not the hall, the cast had to work twice as hard to create a magical environment. ‘Mind The Gap’ was a horrifyingly realistic version of a few deaths in a train station. They each told their stories and they were given a sense of authenticity and individuality by the terrifying makeup. This piece was created by four talented A-level drama students: David Peters, Frankie Brown, Josephine Hepburn and Cam Low. Next year’s whole school production ‘Into the Woods’ will bring all your favourite fairy-tales together in one magical performance. The drama department would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has helped create such fantastic pieces and performances this year.
