The only unbeaten team in the league, playing 8 games, with 7 big wins and 1 draw, scoring 34 goals and conceding only 7. This fantastic success is a direct result of having a fully committed squad at training, dedicated coaching staff, a great leader as Captain Dan Smith and exceptional individual skills from all players. GIRLs’ Hockey Playing hockey at Henry’s has been an incredible experience and a massive part of my school life. Over the 7 years, the team and I have been involved in numerous matches and tournaments, alongside our unforgettable tour to Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Out there we competed against several male and female teams, some even having international players. The memories and bonds created on tour and throughout hockey at Henry’s will stay with me forever. This season we have drawn and won most of our matches which was reflected when we won a team award in assembly. I’m also extremely proud of the team as we’ve beaten Bablake for the final time and ended the season with a 4-0 win against St Martins. Our squad consists of many bubbly characters who are amazing individual and team players. When it comes to our forwards, Jorgia is one of our top goal scorers who is decisive and solely dedicated to the game. Laura is also a top goal scorer who will go to extreme lengths to do her best for the team. Poppy is a solid forward who faces every challenge with a massive grin on her face which has a positive effect on everyone. Our midfield has a significant impact on the way we play especially as we have Molly who has mastered her skills and can literally roll out of every situation. Alex, our centre mid is talented and humble whilst being the brains of the team. She was voted players player for being a great asset as well as being someone who everyone can turn to. Despite being injured this season, Rachael is a fantastic player and a great sportswoman. Whilst Rachael was away Louisa has stepped in and shown great versatility and potential. Our vice-captain Caroline is strong and confident player who plays a key role in our defensive structure. Heidi, our brick wall, throws herself at every tackle with a “can do” attitude, despite ending up on the floor in every single match I’ve ever seen her play. Caitlin, Leanne, Neela and Beth have brought laughter to our training sessions and I’m really proud of all their efforts. Rachel and Chelsea are extremely adaptable players who can perform at a high level in any position they are put in. Last but not least is Frankie, our goalie who has to be the most upbeat person I’ve met on the pitch, who injects energy in to all that she does. Thank you to all our coaches that have taken us on throughout our school careers especially Mr Lees, Mrs Owens, Mrs Dowding, Mr Scofield and Mrs Mason (to name a few). I’d like to say a big thank you to Mrs Mason for believing in us and putting up with our chattiness and nonstop drama for 7 long years; without your support, coaching and sarcastic comments we wouldn’t have enjoyed hockey as much as we have. 2015 to 2016 | 89
