However, it was quickly apparent to staff and pupils that there was nothing to be feared and normal life resumed (with just a touch of extra gloss). Happily, the inspectors left having confirmed that the school community was rated ‘Excellent in all aspects’ and a glowing report was received shortly afterwards. The Headmaster commented, “The report is overwhelmingly positive about the School and captures a huge amount that is wonderful about the environment that we all enjoy every day. This is a phenomenal achievement of which we can all be very proud. I am not aware of any other independent school in the local area that can boast the same feat.” Whilst the teachers were most concerned about how their lessons would go, there was much more to the inspection than lesson observations alone. The inspecting team held numerous meetings with staff, governors, parents and pupils as they tried to get under the skin of the school. They also attended an Assembly, co-curricular practices and had lunch with the pupils. The Prep School was inspected simultaneously by another inspection team with equally strong results. In total, between both parts of the school, there were 16 aspects inspected and every single aspect was rated as ‘excellent’. It was ‘Sweet sixteen’ indeed! Our thanks go to the staff for being models of professionalism and to the pupils for evidently taking such pride in their community. We will not rest on our laurels, however. The teachers will continue to develop their skills and incorporate challenging activities into their lessons. The arrival of the new gradecard and reporting system has encouraged us to develop our departmental marking policies to tie in more closely with the new system. Most importantly we will all continue to support each pupil as best we can to ensure that they have a happy and successful school experience. The legacy of the school, of course, will last long after this glowing inspection report. Mr D Morton “The school is highly effective in promoting positive behaviour” 2015 To 2016 | 31
