Ballroom

dancing success

Bethany Gardiner and Danyil Rybalko, both of 9WS, performed
superbly in a recent international competition. In the Junior Latin
(U16) there were 103 couples competing from all over the world,
mainly from China, Ukraine and Russia but also from South Africa,
Norway and Italy.
Bethany and Danyil were placed 61st and missed going through to the
second round by just one vote; a very good result for them, given how
strong the feld was. They were also placed higher than four British
couples who had previously beaten them in UK competitions.
In the Junior Ballroom there were 91 couples competing. Danyil and
Bethany were placed 32nd and missed going through to the third
round again by one vote. This was an exceptionally good result and
again saw them beat most of their closest UK rivals.

Currently in the UK Danyil and Bethany are ranked 9th in Ballroom
and 18th in Latin, but at the competition there were only fve UK
couples placed higher than them in ballroom and in Latin seven UK
couples placed higher; a resounding success!
In the British National Junior Ballroom (U16) at the end of November
our feet-footed pair achieved a superb 7th place, having been awarded
only one vote less in the semi-fnal than the two couples who were then
placed 5th and 6th in the fnal. As lovers of ‘Strictly’ will know, the hours
of preparation that are required to perform at this standard are not
easily ftted around school commitments. We are tremendously proud of Image courtesy of Norman Large www.dancephotosonline.com
