ACADEMIC News…

Oxbridge success UKMT Team

The school continued its excellent record of helping students to achieve Maths Challenge
places at Oxford and Cambridge.

On Friday 28th March a team of four set out to Myton
School, Warwick, to compete in the Regional Final of the
UKMT Team Maths Challenge.
Our team consisted of Asim Poptani (Y9), Josh Simpson
(Y8), James O’Leary (Y8) and myself, Visva Moorthy (Y9).
Mr Andrews chose us from a group of people who
attended the lunchtime puzzle club, which I would
encourage everyone to take part in.

Over the four events, we paired a Year 8 with a Year

bursary award all the clues were maths problems and all the answers
were numerical.
After lunch, we had two more rounds: the mini-relay and
the relay. The former was where one pair had to solve
a question, and their answer is used in the other pair’s
question, there were four questions in each set. This
was a fun round but unfortunately if you got the fi rst
question wrong, then you would lose that set. The full
relay was probably the most enjoyable round. The pairs
were seated on opposite sides of the hall and once we
solved a question we had to give it to the teacher, seated
